Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital is exclusively for critically ill newborns that need extra care.
A newborn goes through many physical adjustments and those who are sick need
specialized treatment, because they are still rapidly developing.
The NICU at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital is the first-ever built under the
revised OSHA guidelines.
Vital life-saving equipment is conveniently located within the unit for immediate
access.
The NICU staff includes neonatologists (physicians specializing in the diagnosis
and treatment of illnesses in premature and full-term newborns), registered
nurses, respiratory therapists, and other health care professionals.
