Instructions for the Day of Your Operation

Even though it is very important to follow the instructions about not eating or drinking, it is also important to take certain medications. Please follow the instructions from your doctor, or the nurse preparing you for your operation, as to which medications to take the day of your procedure. If you use inhalers, bring them with you.

For your safety, the following must be removed before your operation:

  • all jewelry including wedding rings and body piercings
  • contact lenses, including extended wear
  • glasses
  • dentures, any removable dental work
  • wigs
  • hairpins, hairclips
  • make-up
  • tampons

If you are pregnant or think you might be, it is important to tell your surgeon and anesthesiologist. Medications used for anesthesia can cause problems for the developing fetus.
