Long distance calls: Long distance calls can be made but must be charged to your credit card, a telephone calling card or placed as a collect call. In addition to the cost of the call, the phone company will charge you a high fee for placing a long distance call and charging it to another number (such as your home phone number). This is standard practice of the phone company and not the hospital. The least expensive way to make a long distance call from your room is by using a pre-paid calling card. These are available in most stores and are also available in the hospital's Gift Shop. To make a long distance call from your room, dial 811 and the number you are calling.
