Sport & Performance Psychology Services
Our program offers treatment of performance-related problems in athletics and the performing arts. Problems include anxiety that adversely affects individual performance, difficulties accepting and adjusting to career-ending injuries, retirement, and many others.

Treatment:
- Clinical interventions
- Training in the use of behavioral techniques designed
to reduce stress and enhance athletic and artistic performance including
visualization, progressive relaxation, arousal, concentration, attention,
mental imagery, self-talk, goal setting, and confidence building
- Evaluations and referrals to programs for nutrition,
rehabilitation, treatment for chemical dependency, and psychotherapy
- Research and assessment of individual and team
personality types and temperaments as they relate to performance
predictability
- Consultation with coaches and athletic administrators on a variety of issues that may adversely affect the performance of teams and organizations
Staff Capabilities
Michael C. Ware, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist and coordinator of Sport and Performance Psychology Services. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and specializes in exercise and sport psychology. Dr. Ware is the senior staff psychologist at St. Joseph Mercy Mental Health Services.

Individuals may be referred to the Sport and Performance
Psychology Service by coaches, counselors, health professionals, or physicians.
