Pain Management

Why do patients with chronic pain, or pain related to cancer choose the Pain Institute?

As one of Southeast Michigan's most successful programs, our team of specialists use an interdisciplinary approach to diagnose pain and develop a customized treatment plan. Our comprehensive pain management plans may consist of a single approach or a combination of medications, therapies and procedures.

Our pain management team includes board certified pain specialists emphasizing evidence based medicine. We recognize that acute and chronic pain is often multifactorial requiring coordination of care between nurses, physician assistants, other medical specialists and often includes psychological support.

Services include:

  • Pharmacologic needs assessment (analgesics, psychotopics, adjunctive medications such as anticonvulsants)
  • Fluoroscopically guided nerve blocks
  • Injection treatments using local anesthetics and steroids
  • Percutaneous disc procedures (discography, nucleoplasty, annuloplasty)
  • Implantable Devices:
    - Spinal Cord Stimulation
    - Intrathecal Infusion Pumps
  • Neurolytic techniques for nerves (chemical, radiofrequency, cryoablation)
  • Multidisciplinary approach:
    - Referrals to affiliated psychologists for coordination of care (biofeedback and relaxation techniques, psychological intervention, complex psychotropic medication adjustment)
    - Referrals to appropriate medical specialists
    - Referrals to physical/occupational therapy and recommendations for modalities (including Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, aquatherapy, manual techniques, gait evaluation, etc.)
