Dialysis Services Unit
The St. Joseph Mercy Dialysis Services Unit provides hemodialysis to inpatients and to outpatients who have not yet transferred to a chronic outpatient unit.
Peritoneal dialysis provides on-going support to this population including initial training and routine physician, nurse, social worker, and dietician visits as well as phone triage. Catheter placement for peritoneal dialysis is done in this area.
Services
- Apheresis treatments (plasmapheresis)
- Set-up and troubleshooting for continuous renal
replacement therapy for patients in the intensive care units
- Placement of lines used for dialysis within the
dialysis suite
- Initial treatment of clotted lines coming from
outpatient chronic facilities
- Collaboration with interventional radiology if more invasive treatment is needed
Staff Capabilities
Our nursing staff is knowledgeable about all of the various therapies offered by the unit. Our physicians are all board certified in nephrology. Both unit physicians and nurses provide 24 hour on-call service when the unit is not open.
