Information Desk - Greet customers, provide directions, information and escort patients by wheelchair.
Resource Center - Assist customers in their search for educational materials. Assist with reshelving, cataloging and processing of materials.
Occupational Therapy - Observe and assist therapists, greet patients and assist with clerical tasks.
Physical Therapy - Observe and assist therapists, greet patients, clean equipment, prepare cubicles and assist with clerical tasks.
Therapeutic Recreation - Assist staff with therapeutic activities and with trips out to the community.
Outpatient Surgery - Provide assistance to patients in recovery, prepare cubicles, discharge patients and assist with clerical tasks.
Emergency Services - Assist staff with non-medical duties, such as patient and specimen transportation and visiting with patients and family members. Volunteers in this area need to be age 18 or older.
Patient Care Units - Assist staff with non-medical duties such as clerical tasks, meal trays, stocking supplies and visiting with patients. Volunteers in these units must be age 16 or older.
Book Cart - Visit patient waiting rooms to distribute books, magazines and humor items.
Huron Woods - Visit and participate in activities with residents of our Alzheimer's facility. Musical skills are always needed.
Patient Relations - Visit newly-admitted patients to provide information about the hospital's services, programs and resources.
Pastoral Ministry - Visit patients or provide communion to Catholic patients and assist with daily mass.
Clinics - Assist staff with support duties such as stocking supplies, preparing packets, visiting with patients or acting as a liaison in waiting rooms.
Patient Visitor - Offer support and information to cardiac patients. (Need to be registered through Mended Hearts, Inc.)
Therapaws - Dogs and owners visit patient care units to provide diversion and therapy. (Dogs need to be screened and registered by Therapaws of Michigan, Inc.)
Urgent Care - Assist with restocking laundry, office tasks and running errands.
Mailroom - Assist with sorting, forwarding and processing of mail.
Clinical Lab - Assist staff with restocking of supplies and delivery of specimens. Assist with morning coffee cart service.
CSR - Assist with restocking, answering telephones and delivery of surgery packets.
Educational Assistants - Assist with educational programs offered by the hospital, including cooking, nutrition and exercise classes.
Gift Shop - Assist customers and help with checking in and stocking merchandise.
Office Assistants - Assist with filing, copying, collating and data entry in departments throughout SJMHS.
Pharmacy - Assist with restocking of supplies, answering telephones, filing and running the register.
Radiology - Assist staff with clerical tasks, restocking of supplies, and assist with patients.
Special Projects - Assist staff with special projects on an on-call basis. Includes such things as bulk mailings, blood drives, festivals and other events.
Health Exploration Station, Canton - Assist staff with the running of educational programs for school groups and monitoring of exhibits.
Clothing Bank - Assist with sorting clothes and preparing clothes for clients. Groups are welcome.
Sewing - Make pillows, turbans, baby quilts, angel gowns or walker bags for patients.
Knitting/Crochet - Make adult and baby hats, lap robes and baby blankets for our patients.
