04/23/2008
The community is invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony and celebrate
Canton Health Center’s 10th anniversary
CANTON, Mich. – Saint Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS) officials are
set to break ground for the much-anticipated Center for Advanced Medicine and
Surgery at the Canton Health Center site located at 1600 S. Canton Center Road,
on Sunday, May 4 at 1 p.m.
Breaking ground on the new, 56,300 square-foot facility marks the 10th anniversary
of the St. Joseph Mercy Canton Health Center.
Members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend this event, which
will be complete with refreshments, a teddy bear clinic and an open house at
the interactive and exciting Health Exploration Station. The groundbreaking
will occur at 1 p.m. and the entire event will last until 3 p.m.
“The Canton community welcomed Saint Joseph Mercy Health System with
open arms to the current site ten years ago and we are pleased to be moving
forward with our plans to bring advanced technology to the area,” says
Kathy Kasperek-Korelis, director of oncology for Saint Joseph Mercy Health System
and project leader for the Center for Advanced Medicine and Surgery.
Since 1989, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System has served the area with urgent
care, clinical laboratory, radiology and rehabilitation services, in addition
to primary care and specialty services provided by medical staff. In 1998, those
services were moved to the current location on Canton Center Road. To continue
to meet the growing needs of the community, the center is expanding at the existing
site to provide state-of-the-art technology and services in the following areas:
radiology services, including digital mammography, ultrasound, mobile MRI/PET
and CT scan; surgical services, including minimally invasive surgery suites;
and cancer care, including a chemotherapy infusion center and radiation oncology
services featuring a CT simulator and linear accelerator.
The project will be accomplished in phases, with the first phase slated to
be finished in January 2009 and the second phase to follow in September 2009.
“We are thrilled to continue expanding our existing complement of services
at the Canton Health Center. We sincerely hope members of Canton and surrounding
communities will join us for a day of celebration as we look together toward
the future,” concludes Kasperek-Korelis.
