    St. Joseph Mercy Hospital is a 529-bed teaching hospital located on a 341-acre campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan. A full-time position for a Physician Assistant with Orthopedic experience currently exists.

    This Physician Assistant opportunity is in the orthopedics specialty area of the Orthopedic, Neuroscience and Rehabilitation Department of SJMHS. 

     

    You will have the opportunity to practice in an area that has been named a Top Hospital for Total Knee Replacement by both Money Magazine and Solucient.  You will utilize your experience, education and skills treating patients of all ages, with a variety of orthopedic conditions, from common to complex.

     

    SUMMARY

     

    Primary responsibilities for the selected Physician Assistant are: Act as a First Assistant in Orthopedic Surgeries except spine. Respond to the Emergency Department for consultations and orthopedic procedural work, and round on the units.

     

    Rounding on the orthopedic unit. Completes patient work-up including patient history, physical exam, order appropriate laboratory tests, x-ray studies, and any other diagnostic studies or procedures needed. Interprets test results and physical findings, writing initial and ongoing orders, progress notes and medications, and execute the discharge plan for the patients.

     

    Provides consultations to physicians, nurses, other allied health professionals, health care agencies, and nursing homes.  Makes daily hospital rounds including pre- and post-operative and charts progress notes as required or as necessary.

     

    Dictates discharge summaries, chart rounds, and staffing conference summaries.  Prescribes outpatient medications and therapies and performs diagnostic or therapeutic procedures as needed.

     

    First call for all orthopedic emergency department patients in conjunction with the orthopedic attendings.

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

     

    Candidates must have completed their degree from an Accredited Physician Assistant Program and be Board Certified or Board eligible as a Physician Assistant.  Experience in Orthopedics is preferred, but not required.  Must have Michigan license or be eligible.

     

    Analytic ability to fully assess a patient, derive a differential diagnosis, order and interpret data and help develop the treatment plan.

     

    Interpersonal skills necessary to participate on a multi-disciplinary team, provide education, counseling, and support to patients and their families.
