DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

Saint Joseph Mercy Health a premier health system offers our Pharmacy staff professional growth and development opportunities, benefits, and work environment. The Pharmacy department is supported by state-of-the-art information systems and technology, including computerized physician order entry, automated dispensing cabinets, and robotic preparation of sterile products. In addition to Inpatient Pharmacy Services, there are four Outpatient (retail) Pharmacies, a Home Infusion Pharmacy, and two outpatient Oncology Clinic Pharmacies.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Tech provides daily pharmacy technical services to inpatients, outpatients and other Health System departments, working under strict time constraints. Responds to routine and emergency requests in a prompt and efficient manner requiring a moderate amount of independent judgment, an advanced level of technical knowledge and a high degree of accuracy. The consequences of a compounding or drug selection error, if undetected, could result in serious patient injury.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of six months of hospital or retail pharmacy experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is also required. Certification as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan preferred. Applicants must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately as documented by the successful completion of an internal examination. Ability to stand for long periods of time (at least four and up to eight hours per day) or to walk long distances without difficulty. Basic computer skills to do order entry, generate reports, retrieve data and diagnose minor printer problems.
