  • UNIT DESCRIPTION

    In a Level II Emergency Trauma Center, that services over 90,000 patients per year, the Nurse Coordinator will be responsible for the following: plans, facilitates and evaluates nursing/patient care delivery and overall operations on the designated unit assuming 24 hour accountability. Sets vision and goals for unit/area. Provides managerial and professional leadership. Collaboratively develops and achieves clinical outcomes for designated patient population.

    The State of the Art St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Emergency Department has been recently renovated, and the staff is broken down into five teams, one which services the Pediatric population. St. Joseph Mercy Hospital is a teaching facility, and we do operate our Emergency Team with a collaborative mix of Registered Nurses, Physician's Assistants, Emergency Room Techs, Unit Assistants, MD's and Residents.

    SUMMARY

    The Nursing Coordinator is responsible for team of Nurses, Techs, and Unit Assistants. Will be responsible to manage the flow of patients through the department; working with the Triage PA and Team, Rounding with Physicians and assigning rooms based on acuity. Assumes delegated accountability for a specified period of time for the quality of nursing care on a specific unit from the Clinical Nurse Manager, who maintains 24 hour accountability. Plans, coordinates, manages and evaluates the total nursing care system considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs of patients. Demonstrates unit area designated competencies.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Requires a AS or BSN in Nursing. Current Michigan License as a Registered Nurse.

    Five years of Emegency Department experience. Coordinator or Charge Nurse experience in an Emergency Department is required. Monitor experienced, ACLS, TNCC and ENPC or PALS certifications required.
