Activities
Residency Project
Each resident will complete a major research project that involves writing
the proposal, obtaining IRB approval, collecting and analyzing data and then
preparing a written summary of the project and results. If the project involves
writing or revising a protocol, the resident will have an integral role in this
process as well.
The residency project will be presented as a poster in the Resident Poster
Session at the ASHP Midyear meeting as well as at the SJMHS Research Forum and
as a podium presentation at the Great Lakes Residency Conference..
Additional Projects
The residents also complete smaller projects including a P&T drug monograph,
a medication use evaluation, and an informatics assignment.
Teaching
The residents have a yearlong appointment as adjunct clinical faculty of the
University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. This appointment provides access
to many university resources. In the winter term, the residents are classroom
instructors in a patient care course for third year pharmacy students. Also,
throughout the year, they have opportunities to precept students on clerkship
rotations.
To provide formal presentation experience, each resident participates in a
nursing education lecture series and gives a pharmacy CE presentation.
Staffing/Weekend Responsibilities
A good working knowledge of distributive processes is considered integral
to providing effective clinical services. At most, the residents work one in
three weekends, with responsibilities alternating between clinical/pharmacokinetic
duties and on-line staffing. Residents may also provide occasional staffing
support around holidays as needed.
