Cancer Research/Clinical Trials

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) considers us a model Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP). St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, is the lead institution in the Michigan Cancer Research Consortium, one of 50 programs nationwide. Nationally, we partner with top cancer centers in clinical trials, such as M.D. Anderson and Mayo Clinic.

Our oncologists have access to cutting-edge treatments and experimental medications. SJMHS offers clinical trials at all phases of development.

Our commitment to research also enables us to continuously study the quality of clinical outcomes. We examine and evaluate standards on an ongoing basis, and implement proven systems and processes to enhance treatment quality.

SJMHS Cancer Research Highlights

  • Continuously funded grant through NCI since 1993
  • One of the top ten accruing CCOPs in the country, conducting hundreds of CCOP and pharmaceutical trials with 600 to 700 patients enrolled per year
  • One of only two sources for Mayo Clinic Trials through the North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG)
  • 2006 American Society of Oncology Award for Clinical Trials Participation
  • Articles on CCOP research in Journal of Oncology Practice

SJMHS is a regional research base for clinical trials with the North Central Cancer Treatment Group at the Mayo Cancer Center in Rochester, Minnesota. This unique affiliation connects physicians, scientists and other cancer specialists from the Mayo Clinic with SJMHS physicians and researchers.
