If your child is uncomfortable because of a fever from
chickenpox, you can have the child:
- Drink more water and juices. Children may enjoy
sucking on ice chips or Popsicles.
- Take lukewarm sponge
baths.
- Dress lightly and avoid wrapping up in warm blankets.
- Take medicine to reduce fever as needed. Acetaminophen (such as
Tylenol) or ibuprofen (such as Advil) can be safely used to reduce fever from
chickenpox. If you are not sure about the amount of medicine to give your
child, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Do not give aspirin to anyone younger than 20 because of the risk of
Reye's syndrome.
